Mock drill

Why do we need to prepare for an earthquake?
We need to orient the students. We do not know where and when exactly an earthquake will occur, but we can learn and teach the needed actions to avoid the possible effects and impacts that it can bring. School children spend most of their time in school. If an earthquake occurs during school time, as teachers you will have to respond and secure the safety of all your students.

What do we need to do during earthquakes?
We can observe safety measures to avoid the impacts of an earthquake. We need to familiarize ourselves and teach our students about school surroundings. You can start by having class activities wherein you and your students can go around the school premises to be familiarized with the earthquake safe spots in your school (Open spaces, etc.) and to identify unsafe practices, potential hazards, and danger zones in case of an earthquake.

Practice now so you can protect yourself without hesitation during a real earthquake.

The family of Motithang Higher Secondary School conducted its Annual Athletic Meet on the 14th of May 2016. As the day approached, the family geared up for it with excitement. The theme was: “Stay active for sound body and mind”. Indeed, it was an experience to be cherished. We were humbly honoured with the presence of Lyonpo Leki Dorji, the minister for the Ministry of Economic Affairs as our chief guest.
His Excellency reiterated to our young minds the importance of taking part in variety of sporting events which would ultimately lead to the wholesome development and wished them good luck for the events. This year’s highlight was “passing the ball” game played between the parent and his /her child which happened for the first time in the history of MHSS. The great day came to an end with the award of medals, certificates and prizes including for throws and jump events which were held prior to the sports day.
This year, Wangchuk House emerged as the champion house and they celebrated with great pomp and show.

School Rimdo

It was on 23rd March this year that Motithang Higher Secondary School held its Annual Rimdro. The school has its history of performing rimdro every year for the well-being of students, parents, staff members and all sentient beings. The school believes in the merits it brings forth in achieving good academic results and other co-curricular achievements every year. This year, the school decided to perform ‘Sherning Dued Dhok-an incredible rimdro’ composed by Lord Buddha to cure the King of the Gods called Jajin and the King Tete of certain kingdom in India who suffered from long term ailment. Since then this rimdro has become very popular among many who follow buddhism. The school also firmly believes in warding off evil spirits that cause sicknesses and stopping negative aspects of life to come into force. The school considers itself very lucky as we have H.H.TangRimpoche to grace us every year during our rimdro. This year too as the previous years Rimpohe kindly consented to bless us with his presence to perform our school rimdro. The programs started very early with Rimpoche’s arrival. It started with Riwo Sangchoe-the smoke offerings to the Three Jewels, deities of the ten directions and also to clear the debts of all beings accumulated in the past and help them to achieve the path of enlightenment. The TshogKhor ceremony or the elaborate food and drink offerings to the Three Jewels and all bodhisatavas was performed next to acquire merits that may nullify all the negatives aspects of life and broaden the path of achievements starting from everyday life to the final goal of enlightenment. The Soekha-the ceremony to appease the local deities by offering Serkem(wine) ended the morning program of the day. The afternoon session started with Badge awarding ceremony for the captains. Our captains were truly fortunate to receive the badges and khadars from Rimpoche. Such rare opportunities are often taken as the true indications of good luck and fulfillment in life. The other highlight of the day was ‘Chador Wang-the blessing of Chana Dorji(one of the three aspects of Rigsum Goenpo). ‘ The wrathful Chana Dorji is empowered to keep away the sicknesses caused by bitter or unhappy Naga families. Tashi Moenlam-the motivation prayer for good things to come and for the well-being of all sentient beings ended the day’s program. Tashi Moenlam ceremony is very special as everyone can take part in motivating good meaning for the entire world. It gives everyone an equal opportunity to achieve merits as vast as the ocean within the short time. The performance of rimdro by H.H. Tang Rimpoche has not only blessed MHSS family, but his piece of precious advice to the students before the Wang was no doubt a mind opening to all of us and made our hearts brim with optimism.
