Message from Chief of Police

Dear students of Motithang Higher Secondary School,

I have been informed by your principal that the school will soon close for summer break. I can understand how excited you all must have been after the hectic examination schedule. The summer break gives you the perfect opportunity to recoup your lost sleep and time. Summer break is also a time for fun and frolic, youthful pranks and joyful time with friends and families.

On behalf of the Royal Bhutan Police fraternity, I would like to wish you all a wonderful holiday. At the same time, may I also take this opportunity to remind you all to refrain from mischiefs, fights, substance abuse and other unlawful activities. I would like to appeal to each and every student to be the good will ambassador of your school, of your parents and the Bhutanese society. Should you, any of you require any police assistance, I will also be there to help you.

Remember, you are all policemen and women not in uniform and you will always remain our most important partners in making Bhutan the most peaceful country to work and live in south Asia. Tashi Delek and enjoy your holidays meaningfully.

Chimi Dorji
Chief of Police

Self Care Program

Beautifully orchestrated "Self Care Program" for our students was successfully conducted today by school administration. Self care is used to refer to school children who are without adult supervision during the after-school hours (especially during vacation) whether they are at home, at friends' houses, or in public places. Many of our children get on wrong track or mislead or go astray during their vacation, particularly when they are on the quest of learning or experimenting something new.

Thus, such program was found exceedingly important for our adolescent students who are still on the midst of learning the differences between vice and virtues living. Such program will save them from the clutches of misdemeanor and many other serious but unforeseen crime.

His Excellency Education Minister's message

Dear Parents,
Summer break is here and your children/child will be on vacation for a month. After five months of rigorous academic session and under strict vigilance of the school management, it is this time that children will feel complete freedom at home.
This is the time when children get tempted to hang out with friends and this is the time when our streets and towns will be flooded with children. If not vigilant and cautious, our children may get into trouble drawn into fights, substance abuse, and may even come into conflict with laws.
I would like to urge all parents and guardians to engage your children meaningfully and be concerned about the many social problems that children might come into contact with either under peer pressure or out of temptation.
Most importantly, we should consider that children are home for just one month after which they will go back to the rigor of the school system. This is the time and opportunity for parents to spend the best of your time with your children- the only time you can spend quality time with your children. It’s my earnest request to the parents and children not to miss this time and space to be together, to share your hopes and dreams, to understand more of each other and above all to deepen that bonding that parents and children share.
May I also request parents to take note of your children’s outing timing and whereabouts and to monitor your children’s friends.
Wishing you happy time together with your children!

Short movies

Four awesome short movies were screened today in MPH, and were all produced, directed, edited and even acted by eager beaver our Media club students they themselves in the shortest possible time. They are very fortunate to receive training from Media officials and their teacher Madam Pema Yangden. I often heard some people saying that "every Tom, Dick and Harry (anyone or everyone) can make movie" but it is easier said than done (easy to propose but difficult to accomplish).Making good movies is not everybody's cup of tea rather it needs bending over backwards (great efforts). Media as a subject help our students to understand the world in many different ways which is critical to understanding how society and the way the world works.

"Prevention is better than cure". Timely advice on alarmingly uprising unforeseen adolescent issues. Adolescents. A critical transition stage. WHO identifies adolescence as the period in human growth and development that occurs after childhood and before adulthood, from ages 10 to19. Many unhealthy behaviors starts during adolescence stage, such as consuming a poor diet ( leading to either obesity or malnutrition), smoking, substance use, violence and many other undesirable habits that can either lead to immediate health problems, long-term disorders, or poor health later in life. Thus, is a risky stage of human development if proper care and attention is not given.

There are innumerable problems faced by our own students since majority of them are in their peak of adolescent stage. However, major problems faced by teenage girls are different from those of boys. Thus, our school administration made wise decision to conduct timely advice and counseling related to adolescent's challenges and problems separately for boys and girls. For girls in MPH by Madam Principal and other lady teachers while for boys in assembly ground by VP.Lop.Pema Wangchuk, SSD secretary Sir Kencho Tobgay, Health coordinator Sir Ugyen Tshering and other gent teachers.

Sports Day

Our annual sport day finally concluded with grand success. A healthy nation is always a wealthy nation. Therefore, it is necessary to put emphasis on sports too. One can think of a healthy mind only in a healthy body. Both physical and mental well being are the prerequisites of great achievements in student's life.
☝Necessity of sports:

  1. Sports are the sources of recreation. They provide relief and a sense relaxation in a life of monotony of routine marked by miseries, hardships and hurdles.
  2. They instill or infuse a sportive spirit to take up the heavy burden of life in a lighter vein and not to think of life either as a tragedy or a comedy but as the ordinary business of living.
  3.  It is very essential to maintain health and physical fitness.
  4. It encourages the growth of team-spirit.
Sports and games bring about various methods of diversions.

As usual our school rimdro was performed by His Holiness Tang Rinpoche. In the afternoon we were all blessed with chenrizey (God of compassion) wang.
Advice of His Holiness Tang Rimpoche to students: Never try and indulge in any form of undesirable activities especially smoking, drugs and alcohol. Never hurt the emotion of your parent and never let them down. What you are today is all because of their unrelenting care and support. They love you so much to an extent that they can even take out their heart and give you if felt necessary. Also never betray your parent under the influence of your friends since your truly loving parent cannot be replaced by your multiple friends.
Similarly, what knowledge you have today is all because of your different teachers who taught you in different grades. Be thankful to all of them. One will never shine and succeed in life by going against your parent and teachers.
Never decide to prepare for your exam in the "nick of time" (last moment preparation), instead learn to prepare now and in advance. Be good, shine and succeed in life. Rimpoche also advised our teachers to be faithful and honest to students. Never pour frustrations and problems of home in classes and on students. Be caring, kind and supportive to all.

“Tailoring productive human resources with zest for leading” was the theme for this year’s parent teacher meeting which was held on 24th March. Parents were informed about the academic performance of the year 2016; co-curricular activities carried out and discipline issues. They were given awareness about parenting by the school counselor to create a productive relationship between a parent and a child. If both are happy then, there will be a conducive environment to live in.

School has also elected new SMB members to be a bridge and support between a school and parents to bring a change. After that parents met with their child’s class teacher to discuss and improve the welfare of the children. This is to guide the child with confidence to face modern situations. With a theme “There will be days you don’t think you can run a marathon. There will be a life time of knowing you have.” Our annual marathon was conducted to create a mood for sportsmanship in our children. Morning Assembly

We have come up with an initiative to conduct the morning assembly. The general assembly is conducted twice in a week and two levels classes (9 and 11) and (10 and 12) alternatively. The non-class teachers will be in attendance always .The assembly will be held on Mondays and Fridays. On Mondays, students will have His Majesty's Zhapten and on Fridays, they will have a mass reading programme. The classes which don’t have the assembly will meet their class teachers to have interactions, to build better understanding relationships. This is really a unique activity to inculcate the sense of belongingness towards school and country as a whole. This is mainly to help children to grow and learn ‘HEALTHY’ in the schools.
